Choose a baler around the waste you actually produce

A small retail stockroom and a high-throughput warehouse need different equipment. Tell us the material, weekly volume, working pattern and available space. Vertical or horizontal baler options, bale dimensions and throughput must be matched by the equipment provider rather than selected from floor area alone.

Cardboard and suitable plastic film normally need separate bales to meet a receiving operator's specification. Not every plastic can be baled on every machine. We check material acceptance, contamination limits and who will collect the finished bales before treating the hire as a complete solution.

Site assessment, power and safe bale handling

Equipment selection needs checks for delivery access, floor loading, ceiling height, electrical supply, safe operating clearances and the storage of finished bales. Bale weight and shape affect whether you need a pallet truck, forklift or other handling equipment. A baler is not suitable just because it fits through the door.

Balers have serious crushing and entanglement risks. Equipment must be suitable, guarded, maintained and used only by trained, authorised people. Follow the provider's instructions and a site-specific risk assessment. Never bypass interlocks, reach into a chamber or clear a blockage while the machine can operate; secure isolation and competent assistance are essential.

Baler hire costs, maintenance and collection

Ask for a written proposal covering the hire term, delivery, installation, commissioning, operator instruction, servicing, breakdown response, consumables and end-of-hire removal. Clarify which responsibilities belong to the provider and which remain with your business. Availability and suitability must be confirmed before any installation date is agreed.

Compare the full cost with your existing loose-cardboard collections: hire, power, labour, wire or strapping, maintenance, handling and haulage. Savings and material rebates are not guaranteed. The written proposal must set out installation, instruction, servicing, breakdown support and responsibilities. Do not assume these are included until the equipment provider confirms the scope.

Can cardboard and plastic go in the same bale?

Normally they need separate bales to meet recycling specifications. Follow both the equipment instructions and the receiving operator's material requirements.

Who collects the finished bales?

Bale collections are a separate arrangement unless explicitly included. We can assess collection options alongside the hire, including bale size, minimum quantities, access and charges.
