Specialist waste
Confidential shredding and document destruction
Old personnel files, customer records and business paperwork should not go into an open recycling bin. GRIDCO arranges confidential document shredding through suitable specialist partners across Newcastle, Northumberland and Teesside, with the handling method and destruction evidence agreed before collection.

One-off archive clear-outs and regular confidential paper
An archive room clearance has different requirements from the small amount of confidential paper produced each week. Tell us the number of boxes or bags, how material is stored and whether the paperwork is already scheduled for disposal under your retention policy. We can discuss a one-off collection or a regular service.
For ongoing disposal, ask about secure containers and suitable collection intervals. The agreed method may involve off-site shredding; on-site destruction should not be assumed. We confirm what the proposed partner can provide and the scope of the destruction certificate before you book.
Keep control of records until handover
Limit access to confidential waste and keep it secure while awaiting collection. Do not leave unsealed boxes outside or mix personal records with ordinary cardboard recycling. Avoid sending photographs of readable personal information when requesting a quote; describe the quantity or photograph closed containers instead.
You remain responsible for deciding when records can be destroyed. Check retention periods, legal holds and your organisation's data protection requirements. Where a provider processes personal data for you, check that the contractual and security arrangements are appropriate. A destruction certificate supports your audit trail but is not a guarantee of legal compliance by itself.
Paper shredding prices and specialist media
Quotes depend on volume, collection frequency, container requirements, stairs, parking and the destruction method. Explain whether records contain lever-arch files, bindings or other materials so acceptance instructions can be confirmed before packing.
Hard drives, laptops, phones and other digital media require a separately agreed data destruction and electrical waste route. Do not place them in paper shredding sacks. Every waste collection job gets a waste transfer note, and every commercial customer receives a waste report every month.

Commercial customers also receive a waste report every month.
Equipment supplied on a hire-only basis is not a waste collection. Waste transfer notes apply to waste collection jobs, not hire-only delivery.
Confidential shredding FAQs
Do I receive a certificate of destruction?
A certificate forms part of the agreed shredding service. We confirm the provider, certificate scope and how it will be supplied before the service is booked.
Can shredding take place at my premises?
Ask us to check on-site availability. The service may instead use secure off-site destruction; the method will be stated in the proposal rather than assumed.
Should I remove staples and folders?
Follow the chosen operator's preparation instructions. Acceptance of staples, bindings, plastic sleeves and lever-arch files varies, so tell us what your archive contains.
Can I send hard drives with paperwork?
No. Digital media needs a separately agreed secure destruction and WEEE route. Tell us the device types and required evidence when requesting a quote.
