Covering Newcastle, Northumberland and Teesside from our base in Blyth.
List every bulky item before collection
Tell us the number, size and condition of furniture items, and whether any could be reused before becoming waste. Include drawers, bed bases, mattresses, tables and items stored separately. Electrical appliances need a WEEE route rather than being treated as ordinary furniture.
Large items may need extra staff, a different vehicle or agreed dismantling. Explain stairs, lifts, tight corners, parking and long carrying distances. Do not dismantle upholstered seating or damage foam to make it fit through a doorway without appropriate specialist advice.
Sofas and upholstered seating: POPs requirements
Waste upholstered domestic seating can contain persistent organic pollutants, known as POPs. This includes many sofas, armchairs and other household-type upholstered seating, including some used at business premises. Such waste must be assessed and kept from contaminating other waste; seating containing POPs requires an authorised destruction route.
Do not put suspect seating into a mixed skip or combine it with a general furniture load without an agreed compliant arrangement. Mattresses are not covered by the specific upholstered domestic seating guidance, but they still need an appropriate waste route and should be declared separately.
Collection costs and preparation
Quotes depend on item count, size, material, access, loading and the required treatment route. Upholstered items and mattresses may have separate charges. We check the intended scope before booking and explain any change if the items or access differ from what was described.
Keep items secure and dry where possible, and do not block public paths awaiting an unconfirmed collection. Every waste collection job gets a waste transfer note; every commercial customer gets a monthly waste report every month. No claim is made that every bulky item will be recycled.
