Equipment hire
Waste compactor hire for commercial premises
For businesses generating steady volumes of suitable waste, a compactor may reduce storage pressure and collection movements. GRIDCO arranges waste compactor hire enquiries through equipment partners across Newcastle, Northumberland and Teesside, with suitability, safety and collection arrangements checked before a proposal is agreed.

A compactor is not a substitute for recycling separation
Compactors compress an agreed waste stream into a container; balers produce tied bales of suitable separated materials. The right option depends on the material, volume, operating pattern and receiving route. Tell us whether the stream is residual waste, cardboard or another material rather than asking for a machine on capacity alone.
Keep food waste and dry recyclables separate from residual waste where the workplace recycling rules require it. Batteries, vapes, gas cylinders, chemicals and other hazardous or incompatible items must not enter an ordinary compactor. Compaction can turn an incorrectly presented item into a serious fire or pressure hazard.
Check the whole site before selecting equipment
The equipment partner needs to assess the operating area, ground conditions, power supply, delivery and exchange access, drainage where relevant, and the space needed for safe use. Static and portable compactor options have different collection and installation requirements; neither is automatically right for every site.
Safe operation requires suitable guarding, maintained safety devices, clear procedures and trained operators. Never enter the machine, bypass an interlock or intervene in a blockage while it can move. Follow secure isolation procedures and use competent maintenance support. The employer's risk assessment and training duties remain essential throughout the hire.
Compare hire and collection costs together
A useful quote separates hire, delivery, installation, servicing, call-outs, container exchanges, haulage, weight allowances and disposal charges. Clarify contract duration, end-of-hire removal and who is responsible for damage or downtime. A lower collection frequency does not by itself prove a lower total cost.
We do not guarantee savings or equipment availability. Hire-only delivery is not a waste collection. For waste collections arranged by GRIDCO, every collection job gets a waste transfer note; every commercial customer gets a monthly waste report every month. Consider a Waste MOT review before committing to a long equipment contract.

Waste compactor hire FAQs
What is the difference between a baler and a compactor?
A baler forms tied bales of suitable separated material. A compactor compresses an agreed waste stream into a container. Material, site conditions and the receiving route determine which is appropriate.
Can a compactor take all our business waste?
No. Required recycling separation still applies, and hazardous or incompatible items must be excluded. The equipment and receiving operator must approve the waste stream.
Do you guarantee fewer collections and lower costs?
No. Potential benefits depend on volume, density and the full hire and collection costs. We assess the arrangement rather than promise a fixed saving.
Who maintains a hired compactor?
The proposal must define servicing, repairs, breakdown response and hirer responsibilities. Check these terms before accepting the equipment, and use only trained operators.
