Commercial glass recycling collections

Glass bottles and jars are heavy, noisy to handle and easy to contaminate with the wrong materials. GRIDCO arranges commercial glass recycling across Newcastle, Northumberland and Teesside, helping businesses agree a practical container location and collection schedule with a suitable operator.

Covering Newcastle, Northumberland and Teesside from our base in Blyth.

Bottle collections matched to your trading pattern

Hospitality venues often produce most of their glass during evenings, weekends or events. Explain your busiest periods, approximate bottle volumes and any seasonal changes so container capacity is assessed against actual demand rather than an average that hides overflow.

Storage, safe movement and noise are important. Tell us about nearby homes, restricted collection hours, narrow yards and whether staff must move containers over steps. Agreed bin locations should keep glass contained without obstructing exits or public access.

Not every type of glass belongs in the bottle bin

Ordinary container glass such as empty drinks bottles and food jars may be accepted under the agreed specification. Window glass, mirrors, ceramics, drinking glasses and heat-resistant cookware are not normally suitable for the same recycling stream. Light bulbs and fluorescent tubes need separate electrical or hazardous assessment.

Follow instructions on rinsing, caps and colour separation from the chosen collector. Do not place loose sharp fragments where staff or collectors could be exposed. We confirm how to handle breakages within the particular service rather than give a blanket instruction for every site.

Separate recycling and clear commercial terms

Glass is one of the dry recyclable materials covered by England's workplace recycling rules. It must be kept separate from residual waste, and the collection arrangement should match the collector's permitted dry-recycling specification. We can discuss a dedicated glass service alongside food and cardboard collections.

Pricing reflects container provision, weight, collection frequency, location and access. Every waste collection job gets a waste transfer note, and every commercial customer gets a monthly waste report every month. Ask us to review bottle volumes and existing collection terms before adding extra bins.
